Child Development 101: Ensuring the Success of Play Therapy
This workshop will help you advance your toolbox of play therapy interventions when working with children presenting with anxiety symptoms. You will learn ways to identify triggers and body cues, along with playful interventions that encourage emotional regulation and adaptive coping skills.
Play therapy can help children cultivate critical skills to navigate daunting circumstances such as death, deportation, deployment, etc. This workshop will teach play therapy interventions to help you interpret manifestations of grief and loss so that you may better identify goals to guide and optimize your treatment plan.
Childhood as a culture has distinct values, rules, customs, status, and language. In this play therapy workshop, you’re invited to set down the lens of adulthood as you learn the unique ways of approaching your practice (and practices) through the eyes of the children you serve.
The success of play therapy dramatically increases when considering the developmental stages of any given client. Throughout this workshop, we’ll explore common behaviors at every age, aspects of development to look out for, and various support practices parents can adopt to support their child’s development at every age.
Designed explicitly for clinicians, this workshop will transform your consultation process. With relevant resources and hands-on play therapy experiences, you will learn how to help parents navigate the trials of caregiving and become more meaningful participants in the play therapy process while helping their family experience more joy and less stress.
Story-telling can be an empowering tool to build emotional literacy, explore emotional regulation, increase self-esteem, and more when integrated with play therapy. In this workshop, you will learn about a range of books, interventions, and resources that can help you harness the power of stories to facilitate therapeutic experiences for your clients.
School-based play therapists face unique challenges. In this introductory workshop, clinicians will get support in overcoming these challenges by learning various play therapy interventions, how to identify treatment objectives for common presenting problems, and how to engage allies (i.e., teachers and parents) in the play therapy process so that children can get the collaborative support they deserve.
“Sarah offers an enriching and engaging professional learning experience. She is an
insightful and dynamic presenter, who naturally connects with her audience. She not only provides an opportunity to learn skills, she creates a space to practice and play with the learning. Sarah ensures that her audience leaves feeling inspired and empowered to enhance their own practice.”

“Sarah provided an incredibly fun and helpful workshop on Treatment Planning for a large group of Mending Matters therapists. Even though she was virtual, and the therapists were all in person, Sarah skillfully engaged the room and encouraged participation and discussion. She had all the therapists laughing and involved throughout the presentation, and provided space and time for us to practice interventions with one another. I would highly recommend Sarah for any type of virtual training!”
